Local flavors and experiences

In Estonia, food culture is deeply intertwined with nature and the seasons. Estonians favor simple and mild cuisine, featuring homemade and wholesome dishes like blood sausage, solyanka, sauerkraut, and Baltic herring. These meals are often enjoyed with family and friends, especially on festive occasions or during the cold winter months, when slow-cooked dishes are savored in the warmth of home. Special drinks include traditional kama, mulled wine, and craft beer.

In Southern Estonia, where nature and history are closely connected, local food reflects the region's traditions and daily life. Here, one can enjoy local ingredients like forest products, fish, berries, and root vegetables, which lend the dishes a unique flavor. Local families take pride in their farm produce and handcrafted items, providing visitors with authentic culinary experiences in areas such as Setomaa, Võru, or Tartu.
